Here is a brief description of what CSStrat does.

You can create animated strats for CS 1.6 and CS:S by placing player objects (CT or T), nades, bombs, etc on a map overview and give them a path to move. Setup timing for the movements and nades then you play it back like a movie. There are also options to export the strat as a video file using the video export option. The best part is the program is FREE.

1. About CSStrat

CSStrat is a complete tool to make advanced Counter Strike and Counter Strike Source strategies for the Terrorist or Counter-Terrorist side. Amongst all its features you can add movements to objects such as Players (T or CT), HE, flash, and Smoke grenades to give the real feeling of the strat. The grenades are also graphically animated so you get the full effect of using them in your strat. You can also add website links on objects or movement points, mostly used to show screenshots. The application has its own file type, so you can save and open strats for editing. It is possible to export your strats to Image* or Video**.

* JPG (static image) Intel® JPEG Library included
** AVI (with animations) We recommend using the XViD Codec with 1000 to 1900 bit rate (output file size is around 600 Kb)

2. Making simple strats

Using CSStrat is very simple but you will need some practice. Learning the hotkeys will also be very benifical. Once you have started the application, click on the "Strat" menu then select "New", you will be prompted to select an overview (map) for the new strat. When the overview is loaded you are ready to make a strat by clicking an object such as Players (T or CT), HE, flash, or Smoke on the toolbar to select it, then click on the map where you want it to start (The action to add an object can be canceled by pressing the ESC key). To add a movement for an object you need to right-click it, then select "Add Movement", then you must choose if the object will "run" or "walk" and you can specify the frame it will start moving. You can also specify what elevation the player is located on by selecting "Ground Level", "Below Ground Level" and "Above Ground Level". Movements for the object will continue to be added until you hit the ESC key. To start the animation you can click on the "PLAY" button or press the F2 Key (it also stops the animation when its running).

3. Making advanced strats

In most strats timing is very important so you have the option to set the "start frame", or in other words, the frame where the object will start to move. It is very important to make holds and to make "players" throw HEs, Flash and Smoke grenades at a certain time. Everytime a movement is added the application shows the movement window, where you can set a numeric value to the "start frame" textbox. If you leave it 0 (default) the object will start moving for the moment you started the animation or it will continue its trajectory without stopping, in case you are adding more movements. When you set "start frame" with a value greater than 0 the object will wait until that many frames pass before it will move (very important to HEs, Flashes and Smoke grenades). To add an HE, Flash or Smoke grenade you must create all movements of the "player" to get it where you want the grenade to be thrown, then start the animation and click PAUSE when the Player arrives at the location you want the grenade to be thrown. If using Play/Edit mode you can add grenades without stopping your strat or remembering start frames as they will be filled in for you. Now if you are not using Play/Edit mode you must write down the total frames of the animation and click STOP or press F2, then select an HE, Flash or Smoke grenade and put it in the map where you want it to be thrown, right-click on it and select "Add movement" and set "start frame" equal to the frame you wrote down. If you want the grenade to bounce a wall for example, just add another movement. You also have the ability to make players face certain directions when moving so they can watch choke points or camp certain spots.

4. Adding Links to Objects or Movement Points

CSStrat has a very useful option that allows you to add a website link to an object or movement point, so you can add a link to a screenshot for example. It is very good to show a position or where the player should be looking at. You can link to a site or a file too, just like the web. To add a link, just right-click in the object or waypoint then select the "Link" item. Click in "GO" to open the link.

5. Exporting strats to Image

The option to export strats as JPG is very good when you want to show some basic CT positions or a T hold because it is a static image. You will find the option to export as image in the "Strat" menu.

6. Exporting strats to Video

Exporting strats to video is not just one of the best features of CSStrat, but also a differential between all strat makers available. Before exporting to video you must have some codec to encode it (we recommend XViD - http://www.xvid.org/). Even big strats can be exported to video and the AVI file size should be around 600 Kb setting XViD with the bit rate set between 1000-1900 so the text is readable. To make the AVI you must click on the "Strat" menu then on "Export to Video", click "REC" to start recording the animation it will automatically stop recording when the strat is finished. After that just click in "SAVE" to encode the video and save as AVI. You also have the option to record audio with your strat by checking the "Record Audio" box on the Export Video screen.

8. CSStrat Hotkeys

Hotkeys are very important in CSStrat to make a strat faster than clicking buttons or right-clicking objects to add movements.

F2 - STARTS the animation and STOPS it when it is already running.
F3 - PAUSES the animation when it is running and CONTINUES when it is paused.
F4 - SLOW the animation when its running and play it full speed by clicking again.
F5 - PLAY/EDIT MODE the animation plays but you can see the movment lines. In this mode you can easily add grenades and timing to objects when paused.
CTRL - Holding CTRL when adding a movement will keep the movement box from being displayed while the previous movment options (Run/Walk, Elevation) are kept.
